The 54,000ha Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is gradually reverting to its original condition, free from human interference. More than 8,000 hectares have been designated as a wilderness area. Tilney Manor provides guests with the chance to see this intriguing segment of the Breede River Valley in privacy and opulence, situated about three hours from Cape Town and a brief detour from Route 62.
Sanbona’s three unique biomes – Karoo, fynbos, and thicket – exemplify the remarkable biodiversity of the reserve, while its abundance of predators attests to the viability of the ecosystem. The reserve’s dramatic scenery, characterized by mountains and hills, conceals ancient San rock art estimated to be over 3,500 years old, and the severely endangered riverine rabbit has been observed in the area.
