Sustainable coastal retreat on the Whale Coast
Morukuru Beach Lodge is the latest addition to the Morukuru family, situated atop the sun-bleached dunes of the De Hoop Reserve. The resort, situated at the terminus of the Cape’s renowned ‘Whale Trail’, offers pristine vistas of the Indian Ocean coastline and provides exceptional opportunities for shore-based whale viewing, visible from the suites, café, and bar.
Morukuru operates in a safari-style manner, fostering close connections between staff and guests, with activities provided. Lodge management determine daily activities based on the season, weather conditions, and guest preferences. Engage in a game drive, low-tide excursion, mountain biking adventure, terrestrial whale observation, or sandboarding. Opportunities for snorkeling in safeguarded rock pools are available.
The five expansive and exquisite apartments (four overlook the ocean, while one offers captivating dune vistas) were crafted by Dutch interior designer Janine Butter, who fashioned elegant, tranquil environments that harmonize with the surrounding scenery. Sliding doors that extend from floor to ceiling provide access to an exceptional 51-kilometre expanse of beach and ocean views. Every room is equipped with a wood-burning stove, which is ignited each evening during winter. The bathrooms exceed the size of most hotel rooms, including unrefined light grey granite flooring, open showers, and a freestanding bathtub.
