Spion Kop Lodge : Rates, Reviews, Booking Information

Explore the battlegrounds of the South African War

Located across from Spioenkop Dam and Nature Reserve, Spion Kop Lodge is a renovated homestead on a 700-hectare game farm that was formerly the location of a significant fight during the South African War.  Visitors can appreciate the region’s natural splendor and participate in intriguing excursions of ancient battlefields, led by the informed owner Raymond or his son Alastair.

The Lodge’s Battlefield Experience tour spans three days, encompassing Mount Alice, the Spion Kop Battlefield, Tugela Heights, the Ladysmith Museum, and other significant landmarks.  Traverse the same terrain as Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, and General Louis Botha, opting to journey on horseback or in the luxury of an air-conditioned van.  Furthermore, one can observe the avifauna, fauna, and breathtaking landscapes of the region, all framed by the faraway Drakensberg mountains.

The exquisitely renovated turn-of-the-century farmhouse features eight double en suite rooms, while two self-catering cottages comprise two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, and braai amenities.  Acacia Cottage also includes an additional modest room appropriate for a toddler.
