Refuge in the “Realm of the Giants”
In a region where water is a limited resource, animals invariably congregate around the nearest water source — as is the case at Mashatu Lodge. The expansive waterhole and dense foliage around the lodge create a refuge on the eastern edge of the Kalahari Desert, drawing an impressive array of birds and wildlife to its verdant environment.
The lodge is located within the 30,000-hectare Mashatu Game Reserve, which hosts the biggest population of elephants on privately held territory. Game drives led by skilled guides and trackers provide an excellent opportunity to explore the reserve, referred to as the “Land of the Giants”. The Discovery Room, situated on the premises, serves as a hub for scientific research at Mashatu, where one can investigate the fauna and the historical context of the reserve.
The lodge’s perimeter features 14 en-suite luxury suites, strategically situated to provide both seclusion and accessibility to the adjacent bush. The tastefully decorated and expansive Suites have a double bed, an oversized single bed, and a lounge room with a daybed.
